As part of the Shire of Mundaring Council Plan 2024–2034, we’re looking at ways to support sustainable tourism and enhance local amenities. One key initiative is the proposed development of rest stop facilities in Chidlow, which may include an RV Dump Point and an EV Charging Station.

Why This Matters?

Research from the tourism industry shows that visitors travelling in self-contained RVs spend an average of $80–$90 per person, per day. Trials in the City of Bunbury have shown that RV travellers using rest stops and dump points contribute significantly to the local economy—spending on groceries, fuel, retail, hospitality, and mechanical services.

🧭 Why the Village Green?

After reviewing several locations, Village Green was identified as the preferred site due to its:

• Close proximity to local businesses
• Access to public toilets and shelters

which makes it an ideal spot for travellers while supporting local commerce.

Currently, a chain barrier restricts access to the Village Green. If the rest stop is developed, this area would need to remain open for RV access. We understand the Village Green is also used for important community events like ANZAC Day ceremonies and local festivals. To balance both uses, we propose a booking system for the rest stop bays, allowing the Shire to reserve the space for community events when needed.

🛠️ What’s Proposed

• A two-stage plan for rest stop bays and a dump point
• Stage 1 is funded with $100,000 from the State Government and scheduled for 2025/26
• Stage 2 will be considered in future years based on usage and community feedback
